Week 15 In this week the team gather together to plan the final work that was due for Thursday. Also, we had an activity where we had to read three short stories to make a presentation about what we read. The first assignment we have in the week was to read the short stories. Through the course we have studied many countries and these stories gives us a look of the American culture and history. The stories were a little weird and complicated to understand. I didn’t know if the stories have a secret refence or a deep message that I wasn’t understanding. After reading we needed to make a presentation that asked some questions given by the teacher. The final project was one of my favorite activities because it gave me a lot of freedom when writing. The safe assign is an obstacle because doesn’t let you copy and paste many citations because it affects your quality of work. So, to avoid any percentage of copying, I decided to write my own ideas, and everything learned in the cla...

Week 14 The plan in this week was to see a movie and make a task about the movie. We see the first part of the movie on Monday and the second part on Wednesday. The movie that we watched was named The Power of One. This movie was very interesting because it showed the history of South Africa through the life of a little kid, then becoming an adult. This movie showed the British invasion in Africa and how this affected many people, including the British. The protagonist of this story is a little kid that was born in South Africa from British parents. This shows how the invasion had a big impact in the culture and diversity of South Africa has ow at days. This kid grows through the WW2 and suffers the bully and hate the African people have towards him from being considered British. This kid, having both nationalities, doesn’t see a difference form himself and the other Africans that comes from tribes. Week 13 In the first session of this week we had an activity with pairs about the countries. In previous week each team had to make a presentation about an English-speaking country and talk about their culture, economy, recent news and any kind of information they would like to add. The activity of the first session was related with this. In pairs we needed to choose the countries that we didn’t expose and make a report about each of them. This was unexpected, and it was kind of difficult to remind the information that the presentations had. Luckily, the presentations were uploaded in the forum so that helped a lot to write the report. With the presentations it was easier to remind the content that they shared and to write about that countries. In the second session we did an activity related with plagiarism. We had to write a little essay about the importance to avoid plagiarism. This activity was interesting because it was a requirement to look and comment on other classmates ...

Week 12 This week was all about the country’s presentations. Each team decided a country, that wasn’t USA, Canada, and UK, that their official language is English and had to make a presentation about that country. Many people talked about their history, culture, celebrities and food each county has. The country my team choose was Nigeria. We choose this country because everyone choosed their country before us and we couldn’t select our three first choices. This kind of activities are interesting because you learn a lot. If you hear about countries that their official language is English immediately you think about US and the UK. But outside there are a lot of countries that speak English. This activity helped me to see options of places where I can go to study and practice my English. Some places that interested me a lot were Singapore and Australia. It impressed me that many Asian countries enter to the list of English-speaking countries. This activity help you open your mind an...

Week 10 In this week we started to prepare the country presentations. We choose Nigeria as the country we would talk about. In the class we did a PowerPoint presentation, that was the one that we would expose, and a written document. We started with the presentation. We did this because the presentations don’t need much text and we only put ideas in every slide. The ideas helped to gives us a guide about what we would talk about and what we would write in the written document. We have the activity related to music. Again, we were able to choose any country that wasn’t USA. I choose Jamaica for the great history of music this country has. Many people when they hear about Jamaica and music the first thing that they think is Bob Marley and the reggae style of music. In this activity I discovered a lot of artist I was fan and didn’t know they were from Jamaica. Looking about other country’s culture is interesting and looking to their music and how Jamaica revolutionized the music ...
